A Nap in the Sun

Pat and the Rat

Once upon a time, in a small town, there lived a small white cat named Pat. Pat liked to nap. He napped in the sun, he napped on the chair, and he napped under the tree. Pat loved to nap!
1
One day, while Pat was napping under the tree, he saw a small grey rat scurrying across the yard. The rat was small and quick. He had a long tail and bright eyes. Pat's eyes widened with curiosity.
2
Without a second thought, Pat jumped up and started to chase the rat. The rat ran fast, but Pat was faster. They raced around the yard, over the fence, and through the bushes. Pat was determined to catch the rat.
3
Just when Pat thought he had the rat cornered, the clever rat darted into a tiny hole in the wall. Pat skidded to a stop, surprised. He peered into the hole, but the rat was nowhere to be seen. Pat let out a sigh and sat back on his haunches.
4
Pat sat there for a while, thinking. Then, he decided that he needed a new plan to catch the rat. He knew he had to be patient and clever. Pat was determined not to let the rat outsmart him again.
5
Pat remembered that the wise old owl, who lived in the tree, might have some good advice. He went to the owl and asked for help. The owl listened and then spoke, 'Pat, to catch the rat, you must be patient and use your wit.' Pat nodded, feeling encouraged.
6
Following the owl's advice, Pat crafted a clever trap using a box, a string, and some cheese. He set it near the rat's hole and waited. Soon enough, the rat came out, enticed by the smell of the cheese. Pat pulled the string, and the box fell, trapping the rat inside.
7
Pat looked at the rat, who looked back with wide eyes. 'Please let me go,' the rat squeaked. Pat thought for a moment and then said, 'I will let you go if you promise not to cause any trouble.' The rat nodded eagerly. From that day on, Pat and the rat became unlikely friends, and they had many adventures together.
