Pedro and Maria is a Filipino folktale-inspired story about two siblings abandoned in the forest by their struggling parents. Pedro, the clever older brother, leaves a trail of pandesal crumbs to find their way back. However, they discover a house made of Filipino delicacies, owned by Mamang Margarita, a wicked mangkukulam (witch) who lures them inside. Maria outsmarts the witch, trapping her in a boiling pot. They escape and meet Tito, the witch’s remorseful brother, who gifts them a magical wooden box. Returning home, the box transforms their bahay kubo, bringing prosperity, love, and a newfound purpose to help others.

Smoosh. Then—warmth. Right on his neck. Daddy turned slowly. Mabel stood nearby, bouncing on the pillows, her face full of laughter. But something was… off. Her diaper had lost the battle. And Henry? Sweet, curious Henry had found a surprise. Daddy’s eyes went wide. Henry was holding the poop. Not just holding it—squeezing it. And before Daddy could react—plop! Henry placed it right on Daddy’s neck. "I HAVE POOP ON MY NECK! AHHHHH!" Daddy shouted, leaping up. Henry squealed with laughter. Mabel rolled on the floor, laughing so hard she could barely breathe. Even Aegon barked in surprise. Daddy scooped up his giggling, poop-covered son and rushed to the bathroom. He scrubbed Henry’s hands, wiped his own neck, and sighed. Mabel was still in the living room, laughing and laughing. From that day on, Daddy had a new name. Poop Neck. “Daddy,” Mabel would say, grinning, “you’re Poop Neck!” And every time, Daddy would shake his head, smile, and pull them both into a hug. Daddy said, “I love you forever and forever. Mom and Dad’s incredible journey begins in Portugal, where they meet in 2019 at a 3D design course—Mom was 28 and teaching interior design classes, and Dad, 27, was dreaming of becoming an architect in Canada. In 2021, during the pandemic, they find a farm in Salmon Arm, BC, where they work in exchange for food and shelter, making their dream of moving to Canada a reality. Mom even adopts two lambs from the farm! They make many wonderful friends in Salmon Arm, and four months later, with a trusty Pontiac Aztec, they find jobs in Vancouver and Abbotsford and settle in Surrey. On May 28, 2022, they get married on a beautiful farm in Salmon Arm, surrounded by both their families and friends. Two years later, they become permanent residents and buy a cozy apartment near Gateway Station in Surrey in 2023. By 2024, their lives take a magical turn—Mom is pregnant! On October 24, baby David is born, a healthy 4.5 kg bundle of joy. Mom’s parents fly in from Portugal to help, while Dad’s parents adore David from afar. It’s a story of love, resilience, and building a family in a new land.
